Random Thursday

Right now I am doing one of my favorite things ever in the whole, wide world... sitting on my porch on a summer night with fireflies twinkling in my backyard, Rocky sleeping at my feet, and the sound of crickets and frogs croaking in the background. I've got something good to drink and some good music on and it is just one of those simple pleasures in life that makes me happy.

Today I thought I would just share a few things that have been going on here lately (in no particular order!)

*Thank you for all your sweet prayers for Mark on his LSAT! He won't know for a few weeks how he did. Lots of people have to take it twice, so that may happen. We will see. I know he did his best and he can feel good about that.

*Speaking of Mark, he left today for Kiev on a mission trip with our church. We took him to lunch right before we headed to the airport.

I am praying for safe travels and that it is a wonderful week for them as they minister to the people of the Ukraine. When he leaves there, he and a friend are traveling around Europe for a few weeks. They have been planning this and saving their money pretty much ever since they were in high school. They always wanted to do something fun and adventurous after they graduated from college and before they both got real jobs in the real world, so I am happy that they are finally making that dream a reality.

*We ate dinner at my mother-in-law's house last night and she has the prettiest hydrangeas in her yard! I wish I had her green thumb. Everything she touches turns beautiful and grows like a weed! Haha!

*I got this shirt in Boston when we took Laura and Lindy and I have been wearing it some lately and apparently it causes people to have really strong opinions when they see it.

I was at WalMart the other day and a guy in the store said in a really loud voice, "RED SOX!!!" when I passed by him. It took me by surprise, so I think I must have looked at him funny or something because he just kind of grinned at me and said, "That's a great team!" Haha! Then as I was walking to my car, another guy drove by me and honked and yelled out his window, "Go Red Sox!! Woo hoo!!" Scared me half to death! Then about a week or so later, I actually got "Boo-ed". So, anyway...it's been interesting to see what people are going to do when they see my shirt!

*I know Adele has been out for a long time now, but she is my favorite this summer. I listen to her all the time lately! So good!

*I got together with my sweet second grade team from my previous school the other night. I love them. Even when we can only get together every once in a while, I just enjoy hanging out with them so much and have the best time catching up with them. We had all kinds of appetizers and they were all amazing. I brought Mississippi Sin Dip. You need to try it if you haven't yet. It's delish!

*We have been having so much fun with David lately. We took him to the water park again the other day and then to Chick-Fil-A. He wanted to wear Steve's sunglasses. He makes us laugh with his cute personality!

I bought him a little motorized car yesterday and he LOVED it. We haven't charged it yet but he wanted to ride it anyway and I just about died this morning when I woke up. My back is not used to all that bending over and pushing such a big boy! haha!

*We got my parents a Glo Bible for their computer and iPad.

It is an interactive Bible that is SO cool! For example, if you are studying about the temple in the Old Testament, you just click on that part of scripture and it takes you on an interactive tour of the temple. That is just one tiny example of all the things it can do. I think they are really going to like it. They are both Bible scholars, but you wouldn't have to be a Bible scholar to like it. I would love to have it, too!

*Next week, we are leaving for 10 days in Europe. I think I told you that whole story of how we ended up going with Steve's whole family?? Well, next week is it! I am looking forward to it. We will be going to London, Paris, and Amsterdam.

We are even going to get to see Mark while we are in Paris, so that will be fun!

I think that pretty much catches me up on everything. Steve is home now from taking his "little brother", Nicholas, to the movies, so I am off to go catch up with him!

Jimmy Buffett And An Update

One of my favorite things to do during the summer is go to outdoor concerts and just spread out a blanket and hang out and listen to some good music. And that is just what we got to do last night! Back in April I saw that Jimmy Buffett was coming to Charlotte, and I thought it would be fun to get together with some friends and go. You can't get much more "summer-y" than Jimmy Buffett, right?

We went with our friends Pam and Rodney. We love them and always have fun when we get together. It was a beautiful night and we had a great time.

I wish I would have taken pictures of some of those Parrot Heads. Wow...they go ALL OUT with their tailgating and grass skirts and leis and crazy hats! It was entertaining just watching all the people there!

Meanwhile, Mark came home yesterday to get some studying in before he takes the LSAT on Monday. Please pray for him if you think about it on Monday. He has been studying SO hard. This is pretty much the scene at our house every time he's home lately. No TV, no Facebook, no talking on the phone. Just Mark sitting at the kitchen table studying!

And just a quick update on Laura and Lindy. They are loving being in Boston. They are both getting settled into their internships and having fun exploring the city together. I am so happy for both of them. I told them that I feel like I am reading a novel and each day I get to "read" a new chapter when I call them and find out what has been happening with them that day. :)

In the past week I have been doing little projects around the house that I have been meaning to get to, but mostly I have been just relaxing and enjoying my lazy summer days...reading, watching movies, napping, shopping. It has been wonderful. I hope your summer is going well so far, too!

I've Got Sunshine On A Cloudy Day

Yesterday I got to spend alot of the day with my sweet baby boy. Ashley had a full day of stuff to do, so she asked if I could keep David for her. And, of course, I was happy to do that!

We seriously had the most fun together. He is such a fun little friend to spend the day with and his cute personality is just a ray of sunshine in my life!

We decided to go to the mall since it was a little cloudy and overcast. We went to Barnes and Noble and played with the train table and read books and hugged Elmo. Then we headed to another play area in the mall where you can ride in cars and crawl through tunnels and climb on things. He loved it and was running from one thing to the next waving at other kids that were there and laughing and giggling. So precious!

We had lunch at Chick-Fil-A in the food court where we had a minor crisis when David slid out of the bottom of his stroller and got stuck while I was ordering! Haha! I got him out pretty quick, though, with the help of a lady in line, and he didn't even cry one tear.

All the fun wore him out. He fell asleep on the way home. I don't thing there is anything sweeter than a sleeping baby!

When we got home, we played chase and hide and seek and played the piano and I showed him how to play Laura's guitar.

We worked puzzles and David met my old teddy bear, Mr. Gimble, who I compare to the Velveteen Rabbit. All his fur (along with his eyes, nose, and mouth) has been loved off over the years!

Then we sat on the couch together and ate goldfish and watched a little PBS until naptime.

When he woke up, I kissed those warm, rosy little cheeks and we went outside to play until Mommy got home. It was such a fun day. He is the most precious little angel. I love spending time with him!!

Summer Lovin'

Is summer not the best season of all?? I love teaching, but I have to admit that one of the biggest perks about it is having summers off. Woo hoo! I am loving that right about now!

Yesterday Ashley and I took David to our local YMCA water park. Public school is still in here, so it was full of moms and preschoolers and David had the best time! He is such a busy boy these days and he loves to be on the go every minute, so taking him somewhere outside to play is probably his favorite thing in the world. He was so cute coming down the slide and wanted to do it over and over again.

He just about wore his mommy out from all the running around. Now I remember why I had kids so young. I wouldn't have been able to do it now...it takes so much energy! Haha!

This weekend has been pretty low key and relaxing. Today I did a little shopping with the gift cards I got at the end of the year, we put some steaks on the grill for dinner, and then we went to get some frozen yogurt and listen to live music outside. Steve also worked in the yard for a while. Here are some hydrangeas I cut from our bush...

And I am about half way through reading my fifth book for 2012. It is called The Paris Wife and I am really liking it so far.

I am just amazed that I've actually read this many books in 5 months since I usually have such a hard time reading during the school year. Are you reading anything good? I need some suggestions for when I finish this book!
