Mountain Weekend

This weekend, our whole family met up in Boone and Blowing Rock for a little getaway. Over the summer we never could get together since Laura and Lindy were in Boston so we were finally able to work out a time when everyone could come. We had alot of fun!

When we got there on Friday, Lindy was already there. She got there a little early to hang out with Laura.

We met them in Boone for lunch at a quaint little organic restaurant called Hob Knob. I love fish tacos, so that is what I ordered and they were really good!

The house we rented was at the TOP of a mountain. And when I say top, I mean straight up winding gravel roads to where your ears almost pop. Our house was so cozy and perfect for all of us.

Friday night we ate dinner at "home" and just hung out. Here are Steve and Mark on the porch catching up and talking.

David wanted Nana to sit right beside him while he rocked in the rocking chairs. He was a little attached to me this weekend which was so cute!

Laura and Lindy made us some Rolo treats that were yummy. They didn't last long either!

That night we played board games. I love hearing all my kids laughing together! David was pretty much the center of attention. He was so cute and funny and everybody had fun loving on him.

Saturday morning we got up and ate breakfast and sat on the porch with our coffee and sat around the kitchen table together just talking. I wish time moved that slowly all the time. So relaxing!

We went into Blowing Rock to the little park there so David could play. He has never liked to swing before, but Saturday, he decided he loves to swing.

We couldn't get him off of it! We did a little browsing up and down Main Street in Blowing Rock, too. David got a South Carolina sock monkey!

I wish I could count how many pictures we've made through the years on this bench! (That is one sad little scarecrow! What on earth? haha!)

We ate lunch at Mellow Mushroom--one of our favorites. I love David's little face peeking over Ashley's shoulder as we are walking to Mellow Mushroom. :) He is so heavy! He gives his mommy a workout!

After lunch, John and Ashley went back to the house so John could watch South Carolina play and David could take a nap. We were all so sad about Marcus Lattimore's injury. Aaaahhh! That was so excrutiating to watch. We love him as a player and a person, so we hated to see that happen.

Anyway...the rest of us decided to go to Bass Lake to walk and just enjoy the day for a while. That is one of our favorite things to do!

We came back to the house and watched the very end of the game. We were so glad South Carolina won.

A little later in the afternoon, we went back into Blowing Rock for the Halloween Parade. Oh. my. goodness. There were sooo many kids!! They were all so cute in their Halloween costumes!

It was starting to get cold, so we came back to the house for some chili and taco soup and more game playing. :) We were going to make a fire in the fire pit, but it was too windy.

This morning, the temperatures had really dropped! Hurricane Sandy is bringing lots of cold air here and Boone is supposed to get 8-12 inches of snow over the next few days! Brrrr!! I'm glad we left before that got there (although I know it will be pretty!)

We ate breakfast and then headed to the Mast General Store.

David loved it. They have so many kinds of old fashioned candy and toys!

We got him some little fire trucks and he held onto them for the rest of the day.

We just hung out in Boone for a while and walked around ASU campus until lunch time.

We ate at Our Daily Bread for lunch and then it was time to head home. It seemed like the weekend went by so fast. I hated to see everybody leave. But this week is going to be very busy. I have Parent-Teacher Conferences tomorrow and Tuesday and Halloween is Wednesday.

I had such a fun weekend. I love spending time in my family!

I Love October

October is one of my favorite months of the year. I love these beautiful, blue skies we are having and the leaves are starting to turn here and it feels so good outside. It makes you want to stay outside all day!

It is almost the end of the first quarter of school, so I have been busy this week working on report cards. I love my job, but it is intense. Teaching is just one of those jobs that is physical and mental, so by Friday night I am usually so tired and ready to do something fun and relaxing. This Friday night, we decided to go to a little town right outside of Charlotte called Waxhaw. It is like stepping back in time because it is so quaint and cute. This is the barber shop all decorated for Halloween!

For dinner we went to an Italian restaurant called Mama Leones since we had a coupon for it.

We had a good time and the food was pretty good. Then we just came home early and hung out and watched TV.

Yesterday we took Steve's mom out to breakfast. There is a little restaurant near her house that serves a good ole country breakfast so it's fun to do that sometimes. Then she came with us to take David to the pumpkin patch.

This pumpkin patch has corn mazes, water pump games, a straw house, riding toys, tractors, and lot of other fun things for kids so he had a ball!

We went to Chick-Fil-A for lunch which is probably his favorite place ever. Then it was home to do yard work and grocery shopping and laundry. I made a big pot of homemade vegetable soup for dinner and we watched the South Carolina game which did not go well. It was still a good Saturday!

Today Steve took his little brother, Nicholas, to see the Panthers play the Cowboys. I wish I could have gone, but I had to work on report cards and David came over to play for a little while.
We have been busy for the past few weeks. Here are a few things we have been up to lately:

*Last weekend, we went to see Argo with Ben Afflek.

Have you seen it? I loved it! What a good movie. I think good movies are hard to find, but I would highly recommend that one.

*Taking David to the park.

He is at the cutest age and loves playing on all the slides and climbing toys. Plus the weather has been so gorgeous, it's a treat to get to be outside with him!

*Spending time with my girls while they were home for fall break. They both only got to be home for a few days, but it was nice catching up with them. I can't believe Laura is moving to Boston this summer. I will miss her so much!

*Watching the presidential and vice-presidential debates. Those are always interesting and I have alot to say about it, but I will just keep my thoughts to myself! :)

*I got a Kindle Fire HD.

I am pretty much addicted now. It is so much fun! I have been downloading movies and books and enjoying every minute of it. I love that thing!

*The latest book I am reading on my Kindle is The Same Kind Of Different As Me. It is soooo good. It might be the best book I've read this year. Such a sweet story.

On another note, I have a question for you. I had a friend stop by today and we were talking about how she gets keratin treatments for her hair. She has curly/frizzy hair just like I do and she said these treatments work really well for her. Have you ever had a keratin treatment? If so, what did you think? I was just wondering if they were worth the money!

The next few weeks are going to continue to be a whirlwind. I have parent-teacher conferences coming up and next weekend we are going to the mountains with the whole family. Ashley and John are bringing David, Mark is coming with his girlfriend, Laura is already there, and Lindy is bringing her boyfriend. I am looking forward to a houseful of family and some mountain fall fun.

I can't believe it is getting close to holiday season! I am trying to soak in every minute.

Birthday Weekend

Yesterday was Steve's birthday. His twin sister, Susan, is here from Phoenix for the week with her daughter, Emma so this was the first time they have spent their birthdays together in a really long time! We decided to spend the day in the mountains and we had such a fun day.

We are getting so old. Haha! We have had lots of years together. The first birthday we spent together was our 16th and now we're both 48 and grandparents! What??? But I am thankful for all the years we've had together.

I'm not going to think of 48 reasons why I love this guy so much, but I will name a few:

He loves me all the time & tells me every day how much I mean to him.

He tries to make me laugh.

He is a wonderful father and a loving grandaddy.

He puts everyone else's needs before his own.

He is athletic and in great shape even if he IS 48!

He can fix just about anything.

He is the kind of boss that his employees love. He takes good care of them.

He is smart and knowledgable about so many things.

He is patient.

Even when he has a million things on his plate, he will stop and take time for us if we need him.

He is business smart and hard working.

He is not critical and rarely says anything negative about anyone.

He is an encourager.

He has a servant's heart.

He is a role model for his kids and his walk matches his talk.

He has is a leader in our church and always does anything anyone needs him to do.

He cares about people.

He keeps our house busy because he has lots of energy and is a total "people person". We are lucky to have him in our life!!

Yesterday we woke up early and drove to Boone. Lindy was there spending a few days with Laura, so they met us for coffee and donuts and then we spent the day just hanging out together.

We toured Appalachian because Steve's neice, Emma, is thinking about going there in a few years.

After we showed Emma the campus and Laura's apartment, we headed to Blowing Rock, a quaint little town with lots of cute shops and restaurants, ate some yummy barbeque at Woodland's Restaurant, got hot apple cider, went to the park, and admired the beautiful leaves.

It was a perfect fall day and everything was so pretty.

So...I think Steve had a pretty good birthday! He got to spend it with his twin sister. (Here is a picture of them from I think their 19th birthday together-and now!)

He got to have his favorite things in the whole wide world...barbeque, sweet tea, and chocolate chip cookies! (Not to mention wings for dinner.)

He spent the day in one of his favorite places...

And he had his whole extended family over to watch the Gamecocks and the Wolfpack win!

And that is pretty much his perfect day! :)
