Friday News

I am so glad it's Friday. It is absolutely FRIGID here. I think it only got up to 32 today. We didn't even take the kids outside for recess today. I know people up north probably think we're wimpy. We ARE! :)

Anyway...Mark came home and surprised us this afternoon. Unfortunately he hasn't been feeling good this week. I think he really just needs a little TLC from his mom! ;) If you have been reading my blog very long, you know that he went to the Dominican Republic for graduation last June and got very sick. Ever since then, he has been having stomach trouble, so we are trying to get some tests run and see if we can figure out what is going on.

Tonight we had fun going out to dinner together (minus Ashley) to Cajun Yard Dog. It has kind of a southern-style Cajun food. Steve and I got the fried catfish with cheese grits and sauteed veggies. That is our favorite thing there!

Speaking of food, I tried something the other day that I had never tried before and now I am addicted. If you like spicy stuff, you have GOT to try these...

They definitely have a little kick to them, but they are so good!

I found these links this week and they were kind of cool, so I thought I would share them with you...

Have you ever heard of Stumble Upon? It's a website where you enter your interests and hobbies and it looks up information from all over the web that you might enjoy reading about. I have had the best time playing around with it this week!

And I took the quiz on Jacquie's blog tonight and this is what I came out with:

Your result for Are You a Jackie or a Marilyn? Or Someone Else? Mad Men-era Female Icon Quiz...

You Are a Doris!

You are a Doris -- "I must help others."

Dorises are warm, concerned, nurturing, and sensitive to other people's needs.

How to Get Along with Me
* Tell me that you appreciate me. Be specific.
* Share fun times with me.
* Take an interest in my problems, though I will probably try to focus on yours.
* Let me know that I am important and special to you.
* Be gentle if you decide to criticize me.

In Intimate Relationships
* Reassure me that I am interesting to you.
* Reassure me often that you love me.
* Tell me I'm attractive and that you're glad to be seen with me.

What I Like About Being a Doris
* being able to relate easily to people and to make friends
* knowing what people need and being able to make their lives better
* being generous, caring, and warm
* being sensitive to and perceptive about others' feelings
* being enthusiastic and fun-loving, and having a good sense of humor

What's Hard About Being a Doris
* not being able to say no
* having low self-esteem
* feeling drained from overdoing for others
* not doing things I really like to do for myself for fear of being selfish
* criticizing myself for not feeling as loving as I think I should
* being upset that others don't tune in to me as much as I tume in to them
* working so hard to be tactful and considerate that I suppress my real feelings

Dorises as Children Often
* are very sensitive to disapproval and criticism
* try hard to please their parents by being helpful and understanding
* are outwardly compliant
* are popular or try to be popular with other children
* act coy, precocious, or dramatic in order to get attention
* are clowns and jokers (the more extroverted Dorises), or quiet and shy (the more introverted Dorises)

Dorises as Parents
* are good listeners, love their children unconditionally, and are warm and encouraging (or suffer guilt if they aren't)
* are often playful with their children
* wonder: "Am I doing it right?" "Am I giving enough?" "Have I caused irreparable damage?"
* can become fiercely protective

If you want to find out who you are, you can take this quiz.

And as I was writing this blog, I saw on Chris and Carrie's blog that Harper is here!! She weighed 9 lbs. 12 oz!!! Bless Kelly's heart. I can't wait to see her!

  2. Interesting that you possibly have linked Mark's stomach problem to his trip. I hope you get to the bottom of it soon.

    I just knew you'd be a Marilyn... we always get the same answers on these quizzes.

    Are you believing that Harper - 9# 12oz.??? I knew she'd be big, but I would've never guessed that big.

Thanks Betsy!! PS Hope that baby Harper is okay, that is such a worry when they are so small! Sending prayers their way!

  4. I would definitely agree that sometimes kids (grown and young) need some TLC from their mothers. I hope he feels better soon ;)!

    I can't wait to take that quiz but it sounds like I might be a Doris too.

  5. You should try the Wasabi peas also, very good but I think the almonds are better. Happy Monday!
