Chili and Cheer

Last night was one of my very favorite Christmas traditions...Chili and Cheer!

We moved into this house in 2000. At that time, I was teaching school with a new friend, Candy Sherrill.

It just so happened that Laura and Lindy got put in her 3rd grade class. And, ironically, her daughter, Melissa, got in my math class!

So we became friends that year and, since we were looking to move, she told us about a house two doors down from her that was about to go up for sale. God's hand was in every detail and it wasn't long before we moved into that house and we became neighbors! The best part about it was that right in between our houses lived a family with two boys who were Mark's age!

Anyway...we just love both families and we feel like we are really one big family. Our kids all love each other so much.

So...we started a tradition the first year we moved in, to get together at Christmastime for chili and presents. Somewhere along the line we started calling it "Chili and Cheer" and the name stuck. Now, every year, we always look forward to getting together and hanging out. Sometimes we read a Christmas story, sometimes we sing or play games or watch a movie.

Last night Chili and Cheer was at Carol and Steve's house next door. John joined us for the first time this year which was fun!

After dinner, Melissa read a sweet little Christmas book and we opened presents. Then all the kids came back to our house to watch a movie in the bonus room. The adults hung out at Steve and Carol's and watched Christmas Vacation. So fun!! Here are some pictures from the night:

  3. What a great "family" tradition!! I love all the fun pictures. I grew up in a neighborhood and all us kids were so close. My kids grew up in the country - where our neighbors are a little more spread out.

    Have a Merry Christmas!
