I have never been to an Indian restaurant before, but my brother, Brent, and his wife, Britney, were talking about it the other day and invited us to go to a really cool place close to downtown called Copper.

The restaurant is located in an old renovated house and the food was great! I couldn't tell you what we had, but I know it was chicken and lamb in different kinds of sauces (curry, spicy, etc.) And when they say spicy, they mean it! But the best part was just hanging out and catching up with Brent and Britney. They have a one year old little girl, Bailey, who is absolutely precious, and they are such a fun couple to spend time with.

They love trying new things and have traveled extensively, so they always have something new to share with us or story to tell. And our kids love them, too. After dinner, Laura and Lindy wanted Uncle Brent to come over and play Rock Band with them. That was addictive! And, by the way, if you ever want really great ideas for saving money or investing, Brent's blog is AWESOME! I am so blessed to have such a great family. Love you, Brent!!

Just this week I have had four different friends share with me about a discouraging or difficult time they are walking through right now. I have been thinking so much about these four women and wishing I could encourage them somehow. We all need a little encouragement now and then! These Bible verses are so comforting to me:

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. - Deuteronomy 31:6

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. – Matthew 11:28-30

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
John 14:27

Sometimes we just need a hug. These verses feel like God's arms are wrapped around me. I am praying for my sweet friends to feel that, too, as they are walking through truly difficult days. Please lift a little prayer up for them if you think about it during the day!

Brotherly Love!

I was so surprised and honored today when I checked my e-mail and my brother, Blake, said he had posted something about me on his blog. Believe me, I am just a newcomer to all this, but he is an expert. If you ever want to be inspired or just given some food for thought, you need to visit his blog! Blake is the pastor of Weddington Community Church and he does an awesome job of shepherding that congregation!! Not only is he a great pastor, but he is a wonderful husband and dad to his four beautiful kids! And he is just fun to hang out with. We have had so many great memories over the years together. Here is a picture of us in Las Vegas last spring. Steve and I went with Blake and his wife, Angie and we had the best time! Check out his blog when you have some time! Love you, Blake!!

Fun times together! :)

Blake and Angie--we love ya'll!

Lucky Girl

I think any mom I know can relate when I say that motherhood can be overwhelming. Life with a house full of teenagers definitely keeps my head spinning some days. Just today I have had discussions about breakups, who's taking who to prom, "what classes should I take next year?", graduation invitations, what we are doing for Spring Break, and who is prepared for their tests tomorrow? Along with teenagers come lots of meals, lots of cups and clothes scattered around, and TONS of laundry. (I'll have to take a picture and post it sometime. It's crazy!!) Whew! It takes alot to keep all the balls in the air. That is why I am so blessed to have such an awesome husband. I have the best husband in the world. He is so great with the kids and he treats me like a queen. Every day when I get home from school, he has the bed made and the kitchen cleaned up for me. We all leave very early and there is a lot of hustle and bustle with everyone fixing breakfast, making coffee, and packing lunches. He's the last one out of the house, so he makes sure everything is straight and Rocky is fed & put out. I love coming home to a clean countertop and a made bed, so his help means so much to me!! I am a lucky girl!

Let me tell you about something that I have found. I got a Victoria's Secret gift certificate for Christmas. Steve was excited about that, but since I am not into lingerie that is uncomfortable or over-revealing (I'm a sleep in a t-shirt kind of girl!), I chose perfume--Dream Angels Heavenly. And I absolutely love it! But I found another great use for it. I use it as a spray for linens. Bath towels and sheets smell so clean and fresh with a few spritzes of this!! Try it out next time you're at the mall!

I am absolutely amazed by David Archuleta! Was his performance last night not flawless? I think he is definitely going to win American Idol this year. He is just so cute and so talented!! I'm looking forward to hearing the girls tonight!

So close, and yet so far!

Spring is so close, and yet so far! Today the temperature was around 60. Around 9:00 this morning, a huge rainstorm started with thunder and lightening! My class was at music, which is in a modular unit, when the rain started. So after music, the whole class had to run as fast as they could back to the building! Bless their hearts....they were soaked! Then the wind started and is still going strong. Needless to say, not a good hair day!

I know spring is getting closer, though, because the daffodils are blooming all over the place. I took a picture of some today after the rain. They are so pretty. I love that they bring the promise of spring. Bring it on!!!!

I LOVE Target!!! I think I could have spent all afternoon in there today (not to mention tons of money). They have everything out for spring right now and it is all so pretty. I just love the colors and clothes. Easter is one of my favorite holidays, and Target is Easter crazy! I love the bunnies and eggs and sweet little Easter dresses with hats and gloves. Little boys look so cute in argyle sweaters and white pants or shorts! I will definitely be getting some Eastery things very soon. But, for today, I bought this:

My girls got me hooked on Sophie Kinsella books last summer. We got to go to Europe in June and one of our stops was London. After being there, these books were so much fun to read! Today was the day her new book hit the shelves, so I wanted to get it for Laura and Lindy. But, when I got home to give it to them, they had already stopped by Barnes and Noble and picked one up on the way home from school! Oh well, we'll all share that one & I will send the one I bought to Ashley! She can read it on her Spring Break next week.

Ok-so I went to Zumba tonight for the second time. Oh my was much harder than last time! This instructor really worked us out!!! I am going to be so sore tomorrow.

It's American Idol night. The guys are performing. I am TiVoing it, so I can watch it later in my pj's! I'm excited to see how everyone does. I really like the 16 year old guy--David. American Idol is so much fun!

Is this not adorable???

Oh my goodness....I could eat this child up! She reminds me so much of Ashley when she was about that age. I just love this!

Monday, Monday

This weekend was great. Friday night we went to my next door neighbor, Carol's, surprise 50th birthday party. I have to give it to her husband...he did a great job organizing it and having everything just perfect. He took her out to dinner and left notes at the house about how he wanted everything organized. All the food just needed to be put on the table. He had a beautiful flower arrangement and he even had sticky notes on all the candles he wanted lit!! Ok--definite brownie points for him!

Ashley was home this weekend, so that is always fun. Saturday morning I slept in (love that!)-then all us girls went to Bruegger's Bagels for breakfast. I realize you get enough calories and fat grams there to last a week. That is why I rarely go. But it is nice every once in a while. I love hanging out with my girls!

Saturday I got a little bit of laundry done & ran some errands. Then on Saturday night we took dinner to Steve's mom. She had surgery about two weeks ago on her knee, so I took her some spicy chicken vegetable soup, cornbread, and fruit salad. We decided to stay and visit for a while. She has a long road of recovery ahead of her, but she is doing well!

Sunday morning it was off to church. We love seeing all our sweet couples in our newly married class and my dad teaches. He is always awesome! This week the lesson was on giving back. I thought it was great.

So today it was back to work. Believe me, 5:30 comes REAAALLLLYYY early on Monday morning. I would love my job so much more if I just didn't have to get up so early. That is torture! But I love my class. They are just so precious and adorable...seriously! Every one of those children is well behaved, loving, and so cute. Going to work for me is really a joy each day. I just love the innocence and joy that five and six year olds have. Everything is new and exciting and they are not jaded about life yet. That is refreshing!

Since I spend so much time at school, I decided to take a few pictures of my classroom.

This one is of my desk. The flowers were given to me for Valentine's Day. They still look pretty!

Here is a picture of the back of my classroom:

This is what the front of my classroom looks like:

And I couldn't make it through the day without these two things....coke and gum!! I seriously get panicky if I forget to bring enough money for coke or I am out of gum. (It's a sickness!)

The menu for tonight is pork tenderloin on the grill, mushroom rice, corn, and a new broccoli recipe that I am stealing from my bloggy friend Sophia. Here is the recipe. I will let you know how it turns out!

Creamy Broccoli with Cashews
9 cups fresh broccoli florets

1/4 cup chopped onion

2 T. butter

1 cup sour cream

3 tsp. honey

1 tsp. cidar vinegar

1/2 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp. paprika

1/2 cup coarsely chopped cashews or peanuts

Steam broccoli in one inch of water for four minutes after it comes to a boil. Meanwhile, in a small skillet, saute onion in butter until tender. Remove from heat. Stir in the remaining ingredients, except the nuts. Put broccoli in a serveing bowl, pour sour cream mixture over and toss to coat. Sprinkle with nuts. Serve immediately. Makes about six cups.

*Note: We tried it tonight & it was delicious!! Thank you Sophia! :)

My First Day!

I finally entered the blogging world. I have been thinking about it for a while, & finally just decided to try it. Hopefully I can help myself keep up with all the events and happenings in our lives. :) I've always been a journaler & I love to scrapbook, so this is a new way I can do a little bit of both! I'm up for trying something new & we'll see how it goes!
